EMIT Imaging is seeking a versatile and experienced Product Development Engineer to join our team in a full-time, permanent position. The ideal candidate is a maker at heart, with a proven track record of effectiveness across multiple engineering disciplines.
EMIT Imaging is a company dedicated to bringing Cryo-fluorescence Tomography (CFT) to the preclinical imaging community. Xerra, our flagship CFT Imaging System, incorporates 7 motors for linear and rotary actuation (5-500W), refrigeration, optical control and laser light illumination sub-systems just to name a few of the components. We are not looking for an expert in any one of those fields, but a generalist excited about hardware system development.

EMIT Imaging is a leading manufacturer of Cryo-fluorescence Tomography (CFT) systems and CFT fee-for-service research for the global bioresearch market with sites in Baltimore, MD and Boston, MA. EMIT Imaging was founded in 2018 on the concept that 3D, high resolution and sensitivity fluorescence-based molecular imaging is invaluable and essential for therapeutic discovery and development. Our instrumentation and software provide the most competitive product suite for this emerging modality, and our organization is driven to continuously develop and support innovative technologies and applications to meet customer needs and answer critical biological questions.

Responsibilities

• Develop new product designs and solutions using Solidworks CAD software
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout the full product development cycle
• Conduct analysis, research, and testing to optimize designs and solve complex engineering challenges
• Create technical documentation, models, renderings, and presentations
• Fabricate prototypes and test fixtures as needed
• Contribute to various aspects of product development, including mechanical, electrical, and software engineering tasks
• Assist with the production and service of customer systems

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field
• Minimum 5 years of experience in product design and development
• Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software
• Experience with microcontrollers (Arduino) and coding
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively across multiple engineering disciplines (ME, EE, SWE, etc.)
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
• Hands-on experience taking products from concept to production
• Passion for making and a DIY mindset

Preferred Skills

• Background in electrical engineering
• Knowledge of data science principles and applications
• Experience in preclinical imaging
• Experience with rapid prototyping techniques

Physical Demands

This position may require the individual to engage in significant physical activity including, but not limited to, standing, kneeling, or crouching for extended periods of time, manipulation of hand and power tools, and lifting objects up to 50 lbs in weight.
